Daw Khin Hnin Soe

Principal / College Director

Daw Khin Hnin Soe is the College Director and Principal at Myanmar Metropolitan College (MMC). Before co-founding MMC, she was a lecturer at Republic Polytechnic in Singapore and Chiang Mai University in Thailand. Prior to becoming a lecturer, she worked as an Electronics Engineer in multinational companies, including Motorola and Philips.

Daw Khin Hnin Soe left Myanmar after completing the 6th Standard and continued her secondary education in Singapore. Upon completing GCE ‘O’ Level, she pursued her college and university education in Canada and the UK. She holds a Master of Education (MEd) degree from the University of Western Australia, a Master of Science (MSc) in Communications Engineering from Nanyang Technological University in Singapore, and a Bachelor of Engineering (BEng) from Brunel University in the United Kingdom.

Having stayed in other countries for over twenty years made Daw Khin Hnin Soe realise that, no matter how far away she is from Myanmar, she will always be a Burmese at heart. So, in 2013, she decided to return to Myanmar to get involved in the education sector. Whenever people ask her why she made the switch from being an engineer to an educator, she points to mentoring student intern at Motorola and Philips as the experience that made her realise her lifelong passion for teaching. She finds joy in making an impact in students’ learning such as encouraging them to become more participative in class discussions, helping them develop more confidence in their own analysis and ideas, and, if necessary, supporting them in try after try until they finally reach their goals. During her teaching career, her passion for teaching was rewarded when Republic Polytechnic presented her with the Best Facilitator Award – a prestigious award given to no more than four lecturers per academic year for their outstanding teaching.

Daw Khin Hnin Soe’s educational goals are inspired by a quote by William Arthur Ward: “The mediocre teacher tells. The good teacher explains. The superior teacher demonstrates. The great teacher inspires.” In this spirit, she hopes to mould MMC into an institution that provides a quality education with an international standard and where students are inspired to learn with motivation and enthusiasm.
